SEXUAL HEALTH SKILLSHARE

Healing from sexual trauma is an individual as well as community process. We must wholly work through these traumatic experiences and oppressions. In doing so, we unearth secrets and shame. The Sexy Survivor workshop series has traveled across the country to share space with survivors. We have gathered a variety of thoughtful, crafty, silly, serious, long-term, short-term, harm-reduction approaches, and necessary sex preparedness as well as sex tips to aid us in our life-long journey to creating and maintaining healthy sexual and intimate connections.

1.SELF-CARE
Some suggestions: solo/group Therapy, art therapy, yoga, meditation, dance and movement, going out in nature, receiving massage, bodywork, practicing breathing exercises, play games, have a daily spiritual ritual, shower, bake cookies, find your people and connect to your community, share your experience with other survivors.

2.SELF-EMPOWERMENT
Some suggestions may include: visualize a beautiful and happy place, find a happy place, watch something funny, try reading and writing your moments, talk with someone, give yourself permission to change or pause, trust yourself, be okay with not having to forgive, don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable, talk aloud to yourself , set off on a spiritual journey, discover and express your boundaries, understand your triggers, recognize that you are not a bad person, reclaim ownership of your body.

3. DEFINE CONSENT
Some qualities may include: enthusiastic yes, verbally asked and given, ongoing throughout the interaction, speak about consent from the beginning, write down boundaries/triggers beforehand, learn about body language, think about safe words and hand signals, never assume something is okay, take pressure off of having orgasms, beware of drug/alcohol influence.

4. TAKE BACK YOUR SEX LIFE
Some suggestions may include: masturbate, stay abstinent, have the sex you want, try role-playing (age play, rape play, etc.), try group sex, look at self naked in the mirror, find and include safe people in sex, dress up and feel sexy, breath and ground in your body before sex, understand how your body works and express it.
