Short Description: The Guatu Tour, led by Ignacio G. Hutiá Xeiti Rivera, will be connecting with guardians, families, young people, survivors and organizations working to prevent, survive and end child sexual abuse and sexual violence as a whole.
Long Description: The Guatu Tour, led by Ignacio G. Hutià Xeiti Rivera, will be connecting with guardians, families, young people, survivors and organizations working to prevent, survive and end child sexual abuse and sexual violence as a whole.
The Guatu Tour is a creation of The Heal Project. The HEAL Project (Hidden Encounters, Altered Lives), founded by Ignacio G. Hutiá Xeiti Rivera, seeks to broaden the conversation about sex and sexuality as a critical component to ending child sexual abuse. This project fosters open dialogue in the movement by promoting healthy understanding of sex and sexuality as a focal point of any work to end child sexual abuse. By making visible the hidden tools used to coerce and inflict guilt, shame and violence on children, we can eliminate the shame and secrecy that allows abuse to occur.
Guatu is the indigenous Taíno name for fire. Guatu brings both creation and destruction, revolution and equilibrium. Sex, like Guatu, is surrounded by fear and mystery, yet it is core to who we are and how we survive. The more we understand these fundamental forces, the more we can empower ourselves in the face of true danger.
The Guatu Tour will travel to 14 cities in 10 weeks, from August to October 2018.
